San Juan Island Sample Itinerary
Day 1:
Board the David B in Bellingham at 9:00 am. The crew will help you become
acquainted with the boat and after you have stowed your luggage in your
cabin you are treated to fresh baked pastries and espresso while Capt. Jeffrey
gets the David B under-way for the San Juan Islands. As the boat pulls away
from Bellingham a sense of relaxation comes over you. Your get-away
has begun.
Day 2:
You wake-up in a secluded harbor on Stuart Island. Coffee and Lemon-Blueberry
muffins are served at 7am while Christine makes a breakfast fritta with
fresh crab and seasonal vegetables. While you nibble on your muffins and
sip your coffee on deck, you might watch a harbor seal as it surfaces after
hunting for small fish in the harbor. Over-head high in a cedar tree you
hear the high warbling whistle of a bald eagle as it greets the day. Breakfast
is served and you discuss with Capt. Jeffrey the options for the day.
Along the way
The weather is warm, calm and the sky is filled with sun. There are reports
that orca whales have been seen off the west side of San Juan Island and
they are heading north. Look's like a great day for whale watching. The
crew raises anchor after breakfast is finished and we set out for Haro Strait.
After heading out into Haro Strait Capt. Jeffrey spots the whales and
he expertly lines up the boat to watch. We stay with the whales for
a while and watch them as they continue foraging for salmon. After the whales
have gone we head the boat south towards Cattle Pass and over to Friday
Harbor on San Juan Island.
Stop at Friday Harbor
Friday Harbor is home to the Whale Museum and numerous art galleries.
It is a great place to get out and have a stroll though town and do some
shopping. Back under-way Capt. Jefrrey checks the weather and it looks like
Cypress Island would be a good choice for the evening. On the way you relax
on deck and watch the islands go by.
Hike to Eagle's Bluff
Once the David B is anchored off of Cypress Island you may join Capt.
Jeffrey and Aaron for a hike to Eagle Bluff. This forest hike is a
great way to take in the natural beauty of the island. Once at Eagle
Bluff you are treated to a spectacular view of the San Juan Islands.
After your hike, you return to the smells of freshly baked bread.
Start your evening with a glass of wine. Dinner is local salmon just
caught by a fisherman in Friday Harbor.
